Obituary of Edith Louise Hillman

Edith Overstreet Hillman, 89, of Roanoke took the Lord's hand on Monday, February 16, 2015. She was preceded in death by her brother, W.C. (Bill) Overstreet.
Edith was a longtime active member of First Baptist Church where she served on the Lord's Supper Committee, served in the children's ministry and sang in the choir. In addition to her church work, she was a founding member of the Alpine Garden Club. She and her husband Wes, operated Hillman Flying Service where she played a vital role in the company's success. Edith was completely devoted to her family especially to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.. She was a wonderful cook who was known for her chocolate pies and macaroni and cheese.
Surviving are her husband of 67 years, Wes Hillman; daughter, Melinda H. Stewart and husband Gary; grandchildren, Mark Stewart and wife Joanna, Elizabeth (Beth) Fitzgerald and husband Elliot; great grandchildren, Alexander (Sasha) and Izaak Stewart, and Avraham (Avi) Fitzgerald; sister-in-law, Bea Overstreet; numerous cousins including Frances Adams, nephew, Barry Overstreet, devoted brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; special friends, Geneva Boggs and Irene Henson.
The family wishes to give special thanks to caregivers Jimmy, Trish and the Carilion Healthcare and Hospice staff and especially Susan and "Team Regina". Special thanks also go out to all of her neighbors who have been so helpful over the years.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Choir Fund C/O First Baptist Church or to the Hollins Rescue Squad.
A celebration of Edith's life will be held Thursday, February 19, 2015 in the Faith Chapel at First Baptist Church with Dr. Bryan Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the church. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home. 366-0707
