Obituary of Wiley Richard Abbott
Please share a memory of Wiley to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Wiley R. Abbott, 81, of Daleville, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2014. He was the son of the late E.A and Lillie Abbott, and was also preceded in death by his sister Ella Mae Duczak. He served in the Army Paratroopers during the Korean Conflict.
Some of Wiley's many interests were golf, refereeing, hunting, lake life, and telling tall tales. He was an active lifelong member of Troutville Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, deacon, property chairman, head usher and greeter. Wiley owned and operated a successful food brokerage service in Roanoke for a number of years.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nell Abbott; son and daughter-in-law, Cameron and Vicki Abbott; sister, Jean Saville; brother, Jerry Abbott; sisters-in-law, Patsy Camper and Sarah Wright; and many nieces and nephews.
Wiley never met a stranger and was a friend to all. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Troutville Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 309, Troutville, VA 24175. The family wishes to extend many thanks to Carilion's 6th floor vascular care unit and to the nurses, doctors and staff.
A visitation will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2015, at Troutville Baptist Church with the memorial service following at 11 a.m. at the church. The Rev. Carol Johnston will officiate. Arrangements are being handled by Simpson Funeral Home, 540-366-0707.
