Charlton (Junior) Firebaugh, 87, of Elliston, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 6, 2012. He was preceded in death by his son, Lynwood Firebaugh; mother, Pearl Firebaugh Briggs; and father, Charlton B. Firebaugh. Mr. Firebaugh retired after 28 years of service with Greenhill Meat Packers. He was a member of and Deacon Emeritus at Big Spring Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Marian Brown Firebaugh; son, Stephen D. Firebaugh and wife, Susan, of Roanoke; granddaughter, Sonja Firebaugh Scott and husband, Zak, of Glen Allen; great-grandchildren, Justin and Clay Scott, also of Glen Allen; foster son, Melvin Ferguson and wife, Judy, of Salem and their children, Jeff Ferguson and wife, Amy, Emily Grinnell and husband, Sean and Emily and Sean's children, Luke and David Grinnell; and a number of nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the roof fund or general offering at Big Spring Baptist Church, 9135 Roanoke Road, Elliston, VA 24087. Funeral Services will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday, April 9, 2012, at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road, by the Rev. Ken Gray. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Simpson Funeral Home. 540-366-0707.
