Obituary of Michael Placona

Michael John Placona, 64, of Roanoke went home to be with the Lord, Monday, June 20, 2011. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Placona and mother, Dolly Drew Placona. Mr. Placona received his bachelors degree from Pace University, a Masters Degree from Southern Connecticut University, and had completed Doctorial studies at Bryn Mawr College. Michael was a member of Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister as well as a Peace and Justice Minister. In addition to his service to his church he also served as a soccer referee for a number of years. He had been employed by Blue Ridge Community Services and more recently had been working for North Carolina Public Health. Surviving are his wife, Patricia A. Placona; son, Andrew Placona; and a daughter, Tori Placona all of Roanoke. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to RAM House. A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church 2505 Electric Road by Monsignor Joseph Lehman.
