Obituary of Cheryl Haas

Cheryl B. Haas 44 of Fincastle passed away Monday, February 13, 2012. Cheryl was born in Somers Point, N.J. to her parents, Robert E. and Marion Main. Dr. Haas graduated from Oakcrest High School in N.J., Rutgers University- Cook College, School of Dentistry and Medicine of New Jersey, graduated Cooper Hospital, Three year internship at Jefferson Hospital, and while in Rutgers University Cheryl was the President of the Rutgers Equestrian Team. She was employed by Lewis Gale Medical Center since 1997, during this time she served as Operational Medical Director for Cave Spring Rescue Squad 1998-2009, Regional Medical Director of Western VA EMS Region 1999-2006 and served on the Lewis Gale Medical Center Board of Trustees 2008-2010. Cheryl was a member of the following groups, Rockbridge Hunt Club, Southwest VA Dressage Association, United States Dressage Federation, United States Equestrian Federation, United States Eventing Association, placed 7th in the world in Equestrian Competition in England and was actively involved in Donkey and Mule Rescue. Addition to her parents she is survived by her fiancé David Rhodenizer; brother, Robert E. Main and his wife Roxanne; uncles and aunts, Deacon Paul Bubeck and Cathy Bubeck, James Main and Hazel Main, Carol Bubeck, Alice Bubeck, Nancy and Ted May; nephews, Robert Main, Ian James; nieces, Justine Evangelisti, Audrey Duncan, Rachael Wells; cousins, Paul Bubeck, Cate Bubeck, Ward Bubeck, Donna Bubeck and pets, "Lil D', Brewster and Paulie. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials contributions be made to the Up the Volume Foundation, 5485 Saucon Ridge Road, Coopersburg, PA. 18036 or through their website www.UptheVolume.org in Dr. Haas' name. This foundation supports research to find cures for gynecologic cancers. A memorial service celebrating Dr. Haas's life will be held 6:00pm Monday, February 20, 2012 in the Simpson Funeral Chapel with T. Gary Parrish, M.D. officiating.
