When we were deployed in Iraq in 2006, Anthony and I were roommates the whole yr. We weren't allowed to smoke in our rooms, so Anthony and I would lock the door and keep our window wide open. The door had to be locked with a key from the inside, and the window didn't have a screen on it. One night we were sitting there playing a video game and a rather large bat came flying through the window. So being in a combat area our first instinct was to scream like girls, and run for the door as fast as we could. Well the problem with that great idea was we couldn't find the key for the door. After much debate and a bat flying around our room Anthony decided to put on his gas mask and grab a fly swatter, while I had his back with a broom. The bat ended up flying behind our wall locker. As Anthony went to investigate where the bat went, I did the only thing I could do at the time and scare him. As he went air-born he turned and started to beat me with the fly swatter and say words that I don't think are allowed in the dictionary, the bat came out of hiding and started flying around again. So as the screaming continued, we were swinging the broom and fly swatter around crawling on the ground, I came across a key that was under my bed. I grabbed the key and made a run for the door. I swear to you that as soon as the door cracked open the bat was gone he had enough. As Anthony and I stood there with the gas mask, flyswatter, and broom feeling accomplished and like ancient warriors on a hunt, we realized we had a crowd of people standing outside our door looking at us like we were crazy cause of all the commotion we had made. We tried to explain the situation to them, ya, it didn't work to well cause no one else seen the bat. It was a very entertaining night. Anthony and I always ended up in the most un normal situations you can think of, and one of us always had to scream. I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to have met Anthony, and his family, really really good hearted people. I'm not going to dwell on his passing, but rather celebrate his life and the times we shared.......

You are all in my thoughts and prayers. I have so many good memories of Anthony and he will always hold a special place in my heart. I wish we would have stayed in touch better through the years but I always wondered about him and how he was doing. I know that nothing can take the pain of losing someone you love away but please know that you all are being thought of. Take care of those beautiful children and have faith in knowing he is in a better place now.
