We met Helen in Cincinnati. Gus was a family friend of Fred, Helen’s late husband. Gus and Fred served in Civil Air Patrol in the 1950s.
In Cincinnati, Helen and Fred hosted the Neuss family many times. I addressed Helen as “the Duchess of Blackhorse”. Fred was the Duke. Helen and Fred loved decorating for Christmas and serving a fine dinner. Helen was such a sweet person and funny to a fault. We started texting when Helen returned to Roanoke after Fred passed. Helen was a nut and so much fun to be around. I will miss her. I was very worried when Helen did not reply to a text. I knew she was not well but it was a blow to realize that she was gone. I am sure that Dixie misses her too.
