Obituary of Daniel L. Saunders

Daniel Lynn Saunders, 53, of Roanoke, passed away on November 1, 2023. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Jennifer (Jen) Fisher Saunders; daughter Jessica Lynn Saunders; sister Melissa (Missy) Lankford and husband Joe; and nephew and niece, Joe R Lankford, III and wife Lauren, and Joslynn Kate Lankford. He is preceded in death by his parents Lynn W. and Dixie W. Saunders and grandparents John G. “Brownie” and Virginia H. Saunders and T.M. and Moye S. Wright.

Also surviving are his in-laws Linda and Robert Fisher; brother-in law Cleve Fisher and wife Terrie; nieces Grayson Fisher and Sydney Fisher; uncles Larry Saunders and wife Barbara, Duke Holdren; aunt Sue Nutter and husband Gary; and his many cousins and friends. Last but not least, he will be missed by his beloved puppies Yeager and Calee.

Dan was very active at the Roanoke Elks Lodge serving as an Exalted Ruler after progressing through multiple office chairs.  He was currently serving as Chairman of the Board of Trustees; he loved volunteering and giving back to the community. After Dan sold his camper he became an avid boater, loved his Redskins, Washington Capitals, UVA, and Nascar. He loved spending time with his friends, playing cards and making everyone laugh. He will be sorely missed for his friendship, wit, humor, storytelling, and genuine heart. Our hearts are broken.

Dan’s Service and Celebration of Life will be held at the Roanoke Elks Lodge at 2:00pm on Saturday, November 11, 2023.
