Obituary of Kathryn S. Chappell
The family of Kathryn S. Chappell wish to announce that she took her final breath this side of Heaven on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at the age of 93, surrounded by her loved ones. Kathryn loved her family with all her heart and many long years ago gave her heart fully to her Savior, Jesus Christ. She will be missed dearly but today she is rejoicing in glory.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Zollie Shupe, her husband Roy Lee Chappell, brothers, Oscar, Raymond and Harold Shupe as well as her sisters, Pauline Martin, Dell Hawkins, and Patsy Shupe.
She is survived by her four children, Connie Wilson (Johnny), Harry Chappell (Patty), Vickie Bray, and Pam Atkins (Randy), as well as seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by Linda Rhodes with whom she shared a close friendship and with whom she went on many adventures.
A service to celebrate and honor her life will be held at 12:30 pm on Saturday, October 7, 2023 in the Chapel of Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road with her daughter, Rev. Connie Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the time of the service at Simpson Funeral Home. A committal service will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, October 8, 2023 in the McKenzie Cemetery in Galax, VA.
In lieu of flowers, because she always said she preferred them while she was living so she could enjoy them, Kathryn requested that all donations be sent to The Church of God, c/o Michelle Harden, 1211 Slemp Street, Salem, VA 24153 for the purpose of building a global church Tabernacle in Cleveland Tennessee.
