Obituary of Christine Ann Ontiveros

Christine Ann Showalter Ontiveros, 77, wife of Efren Ontiveros, passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Winfred and Mildred Harner Showalter. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Rosealyn Johnson; brother, Fred Showalter; granddaughter, Elayne Ontiveros.

A graduate of Eastern Mennonite University she worked as a Spanish and English teacher for many years prior to raising three daughters and then she returned to work at Lewis Gale Pharmacy, as well as a local orthodontist before winding down her career by working at three local churches, including Williamson Road Church of the Brethren, where she was also a member for more than 20 years. Christine was an avid bowler and for any years she participated in church leagues in Roanoke, VA. She loved her crossword puzzles, knitting, reading a good book, and always took a huge part in all of her grandchildren’s upbringing.

In addition to her husband of 53 years, Efren Ontiveros, she will be missed and dearly remembered by her daughters, Karla Ontiveros, Kendra Portnova (Chad), and Kelly Gearhart (Shawn); grandchildren, Emily, Chad II, Nicholas, Greta, Haylie, Heidi; brothers, Tom Showalter (Deborah) and Kenton Showalter (Miriam).

At the request of Christine and the family there will be no formal memorial service or graveside. They will have a private family service at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Williamson Road Church of the Brethren, 3110 Pioneer Road NW, Roanoke, VA 24012.
