Kathryn Kesling Dame Buchanan of Roanoke passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loving family and dedicated caregivers.

She was born November 1, 1934 in Roanoke, Virginia a daughter of the late James Wilmer Kesling and Elsie Bowling Kesling.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, James Edward Dame and Willis Sylvester Buchanan; brother, Garth Leonard Kesling and wife Reva Carter Kesling; brother, Frank Raymond Kesling and his wife Betty Jenelle Kesling; brother-in-law, James Carlisle Wheeler; grandson, Seth Uryan Reed; and niece Wilma Dawn White

Kathryn is survived by her sister, Ina Virginia Wheeler; her children, Karen Gail Dame, Cynthia Dame Reed, Scott Willis Buchanan, and Emily Buchanan Totten; grandson, Brian Stillman Reed and his wife Madeleine Genevieve Reed; grandson, Justin Thomas Reed; and beloved nieces and nephews and their families; Sherlyn Starr Humphrey, Garth Leonard Kesling, Jr., Terence Lee Kesling, James Leon Wheeler, Frankie Jo Martin, Kenneth Raymond Kesling, and Tanya Lynn Raymer.

Kathryn was a hub for her large extended family.  During her many decades of life in the Roanoke Valley she was an active member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, a successful professional fundraiser, and a devoted volunteer and community-organizations member.  She asked that her many accomplishments and contributions not be recounted here, but rather be remembered by all those with whom she happily shared the journey.

In lieu of flowers please contribute through St. Philip Lutheran Church 8115 Williamson Road Roanoke, VA  24019 for the care of Kathryn's children Scott Buchanan and Emily Buchanan Totten.

A graveside service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 3, 2023 in Sherwood Memorial Park.  A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 4, 2023 at St. Philip Lutheran Church 8115 Williamson Road by Pastor David Derrick. An additional memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 5, 2023  in the Chapel at the Brandon Oaks Retirement Community 3804 Brandon Avenue.  The family will receive friends following each of the memorial services.  There will be no visitation at the funeral home.  Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home.  540-366-0707
