Obituary of Lila Mae Conklin

Lila Mae Halcott Conklin, passed away on January 10, 2023 at her home in Salem, VA at the age of 96 years young.

Lila was a wonderful mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, Great-Great-Grandmother and friend, but especially a Christian. She spent many years helping her husband Alfred and raising 7 children. She loved God and never failed to pray every day and read her “devotional” books. She obeyed the Gospel and became a Christian at the Floyd Church of Christ in Floyd, Virginia. She worshipped and worked with the Scranton, PA Church of Christ and Honesdale PA Church of Christ. After years of helping others, she came back to Virginia in 2010. She has worked and worshipped at the West Side Church of Christ in Salem, Virginia ever since.

Lila is survived by her son, Alfred Leander Conklin, Jr.; daughters, Joyce Conklin Hutto, Nancy Conklin Birney Richardson, and Kathleen Conklin Roebuck; many, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones.

Lila was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Alfred Leander Conklin, who passed in 1994; daughters, Jeanie Conklin and Dale Conklin Janosik; son, Edward Conklin; her parents and 5 brothers and sisters.

Memorial services will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday, January 21, 2023 in the Chapel of Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road with Jeff Durham officiating and assisted by Neil Richey, Jerry Anderson and Brian VanRavestein. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Lila will be laid to rest next to her husband at Tavares Cemetery in Tavares, Florida.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to any of the following West Side Church of Christ, ABC Food for Kids Program, Westview Boys Home or the charity of your choice.
