Obituary of Freda Pearl Moses Smith

Freda Pearl Moses Smith, 88, of Salem (formerly of Catawba) went home to be with the Lord Friday, May 6, 2022.  She was preceded by her husband Bobby Miles Smith; parents, Cecil and Layrue Moses; and brother, Elvin G. (EG) Moses.

Surviving are her daughter, Theresa (Eric) Sochor; son, Charles (Chuck) Smith; grandchildren, Tommy (Aileen) Sochor; Caitlin Smith and Connor Smith; a great grandchild to be born in September; sister, Eila Jean Moses (Larry) Early; brother-in-law, H.L. Smith; sister-in-law, Billie Moses; former daughter-in-law, Cheryl Smith; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Freda was a Charter Member of Mountain View Baptist Church where she played piano from the age of 12 years until her health declined to the point where she couldn't play any longer.  Music was a big part of Freda's life and grew up singing from a very young age with various family members and friends.  Until she was no longer able to drive, she attended every church service and helped in almost every capacity of her ability but primarily regarding music.  She was a natural caregiver and took care of her parents and husband at home until their deaths.  She was a well-respected member of her neighborhood and could be counted on to help anyone in need and was friendly to all.  She was a wonderful seamstress and made many of her clothes and some of those of her daughter, mother, and sister.  She was also very interested in family genealogy and took many trips to various courthouses and cemeteries with husband Bobby seeking all the information she could find and also asking many family members about family history, etc.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to The Gideons International; PO Box 140800; Nashville,TN 37214-0800.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 29, 2022 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road with Pastor Alpheus Atkins officiating.  Interment was private.  The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.  Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home.  366-0707
