To Cheryl and the Smith family,
I am sorry to hear of your loss. Freda was special to many friends and family. Katie Hill spoke often of her and appreciated her phone visits during her extended illness. They are together now.
Grandmothers are special. I hope that fond memories will linger and comfort you in the days ahead.
With sympathy,
Carol Watson

Freda Pearl Smith and Bobby were wonderful neighbors and friends. I loved to go over and talk to both Bobby & Freda. After Bobby passed away, Debbie and I would really watch out and try to take good care of Freda! Debbie and I took her to Myrtle Beach a few times, and had a great time with her. Freda & Bobby were wonderful Christian neighbors, they will be greatly missed in our neighborhood. Debbie and I will keep the Smith family in our Prayers!

The first neighbor we met when we moved into the neighborhood in September 1977 was Freda and Bobby Smith. This meeting led to long conservations on her car port in rocking chairs and long talks on the phone. Freda, I am sorry I never pruned the grape vine for you. Freda Pearl was one of a kind. Rest in Peace.

“Grammy”, as she was fondly introduced to me, was a one of a kind person. I only knew her the last two years of her life, but I immediately fell in love with her zest for life, uncanny sense of humor, and love for people. I especially enjoyed visiting with her and listening to story after story about family history, history of the Catawba valley, and memories of her growing up years. She and I shared a love for music and I greatly wish I could have heard her play piano. We will miss her dearly, but it’s a comfort to know she knew Jesus and is no longer in pain.

I remember Chuck and Teresa's mother as though it were yesterday. Growing up, Chuck was my best friend, and we often hung out together at his house. Freda always had a kind smile and nice thing to say. I remember going to Chuck's grandparents farm in Craig county, specifically, a Harvest Moon Festival. I had a wonderful time. After High School, we sort of went our separate ways--as folks often do, but thankfully, Chuck did some research and "found" me a few months back and it has been good to re-establish "communications". I was so sorrowful to hear Freda past away--hearing directly from Chuck himself.... I know this is cliche, but this world's loss is surely Heaven's gain. And as much as I know she'll be missed, it's, somehow, comforting to know she is no longer suffering, in pain, and abides with our Savior, in warmth, light, love and grace. And, best of all, one day we'll all be united again for those that believe in Him. Looking around, I think, perhaps, that day can't come soon enough. Warmest regards to Chuck, Teresa and family. Very sorry for your palpable loss.

Having known Freda Pearl was such a blessing and joy. Even in the last years being with her at The Carvins Cove reunions. She was very talented and love sharing her Christian faith. She will be missed. Praying for her family. Allen and Doris Rhodes
