Obituary of William Daniel Catron Sr.

Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

William Daniel Catron, 87, of Roanoke went peacefully home to Heaven on Monday, November 15, 2021. He passed at home with his family nearby.

William was nicknamed Bill and known to close family and friends as Boone. He was born in Wytheville, Va. on December 21, 1933 to William Taft Catron and Hallie Green Grinnell.

Bill was a devoted father and husband but the role he most cherished was that of Pappy. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he attended many of their ballgames alongside Dottie. They also enjoyed golf outings with their friends that took them to Myrtle Beach, Arizona, and the Bahamas.

Bill remained a member of Berea Christian Church in Wytheville, Virginia and attended North Roanoke Baptist Church for many years. He was hired by Norfolk Western Railroad in 1952 as a mason laborer and retired in 1990 as a Regional Engineer S&C.

He is survived by his daughters, Kathy (David) Harris, Jackie Ridgway; son, Billy (Lynnanne) Catron; grandchildren, Jacob Ridgway and his girlfriend Katie Fenney, Matthew Harris (Tara Peaks), Meaghan Catron, Hallie Catron; 2 great-grandchildren, Rylin and Carson Harris; as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will miss Bill, but his only sibling, Wanda Catron Vaught will be among the ones who will miss him the most. Known to her as Daniel, pronounced Danel, they had many conversations about the old times and enjoyed each other’s company so much.

Pappy was a good man; a hard worker and he will be sorely missed by those who loved him. They take heart in the assurance he is with his Savior in Heaven and joined again with his bride, Dottie. A favorite bible verse was 1 Samuel 12:24, “But be sure to fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart, consider what great things he has done for you. “

As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Berea Christian Church (996 Berea Road Wytheville, Va. 24382) or to North Roanoke Baptist Church (6402 Peters Creek Road Roanoke Va. 24019).

Funeral Services will be held 12:00 p.m. Friday, November 19, 2021 at Simpson Funeral Home Peters Creek Chapel with Pastor Daniel Palmer officiating. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to service time. Interment will follow services at 3:00 p.m. at Berea Christian Church Cemetery in Wytheville, Va.  with Pastor Gary Houseman officiating. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home (540)366-0707.
