Obituary of Curtis Edward Fooks

Please share a memory of Curtis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Curtis Edward Fooks, 81, widower of Nan Rae Marion Fooks, passed away unexpectantly on Monday, August 30, 2021 at his home in Roanoke, Virginia. Born in Delaware, he was the son of the late Stanford Oscar Fooks and the late Elizabeth Louise Main Fooks. He was also pre-deceased by his only sibling, Nancy of Newport News, Virginia.

Curtis will be missed by his sisters-in-law, Sally Marion Bridgforth (Joe), Ann Marion Hemenway (Bill), Catherine Farnham Marion, and many nieces and nephews.

Curtis was a brilliant, inquisitive, and caring man. He spent not only his career but his life teaching and mentoring others. He believed that learning is a life-long process and spent his life investing in those around him. He, along with his wife Nan, loved seeing an interest in learning, blossom in their students.

A graduate of Newport News High School and Emory and Henry College, Curtis held post-graduate degrees from Vanderbilt University and The University of Virginia. His teaching career began in Newport News and both he and Nan retired from William Byrd High in Roanoke, where they resided.

Memorial Services will be held at a later date, for family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, please do a kind deed for someone, read a book, learn something new, and enjoy life. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home.
