One of my most memorable English teachers ever! He said to always carry a dictionary with you, He knew what the 7th definition of know was in the dictionary! We just thought that was the coolest!, Because of him I never use incorrect participles! He was an excellent teacher in teaching how to prepare a term paper! He’d always have conferences with the student and their notecards and you’d better have it together too! If he called on you and you didn’t hear him or wasn’t paying attention, you DID NOT SAY huh? or what? He taught you to say, Pardon me, but I didn’t hear that; or Could you rephrase that please? Thank you Mr. Fooks for everything you taught me! I continue to carry it with me even today! Class of 1983, 11th Grade English, 4 th period.

Mr. FooKs was my high school teacher at WBHS. I am class of '79. Mr. Fooks was interesting and definitely one to remain in my memory. He was one of my most enjoyable teachers and seemed to really like teaching. I can still remember some of his sayings that were very unique. He also had us memorize a portion of the poem 'Thanatopsis"- can still remember those words all this time later. I'm sorry to hear of Mr. Fooks passing and hope for and comfort for you his family.

It was an honor to have been one of Curtis' students at WBHS. He instilled a love of learning, critical thinking, and lexicography in his students. His teaching skills were top notch. He was a brilliant scholar, yet he had just as much patience with slower students as he did with honor roll students. His sense of humor was priceless. I will greatly miss the Grandin Rd. Governor AKA Professor Fooks. May he and Nan rest in peace.
