Obituary of Richard Stephen Marmaduke

Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Richard Stephen Marmaduke, 69, of Botetourt County went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 8, 2019. Born and raised in Salem, VA, Rick graduated from Andrew Lewis High School and continued on to serve his country in the United States Navy.  After working 35 years at Mattern & Craig, he retired in January 2016, excited to spend his days on the lake fishing and time with his family.  Sadly, this time was cut short when diagnosed with Grade IV brain tumors which ultimately ended his life. Rick was the BEST Husband, Brother, Father, Father-in-Law, and Best Friend one could have. He was the most compassionate and loving husband, father, and brother.

Rick was a man of integrity, protector of our country, jokester, selfless, light hearted, giving, caring, compassionate, heart overflowing, silly song singing, coffee loving, kindle reading, board game playing, Sudoku & crosswords doing, conversation starting, life loving, make the best of any situation kind of guy. Rick was a friend to everyone. He put others first making sure everyone was taken care of; a give the shirt off his back kind of man. He was a runner, hiker, camper, a true outdoors man.. As a fisherman, he was happy catching 100 fish or no fish at all. Rick was an exceptional man; a man who was truly adored; a man who will be missed; a man who exuded true love.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Marmaduke; son, Stephen Marmaduke and wife Roxy; daughter, Denise Crampton and husband Ray; and brother “Duke” Marmaduke. The Marmaduke family would like to extend a generous thank you for the support and love provided by friends and the staff at Carilion Clinic.  Also, a very special thank you to the sitters and hospice staff who made Rick’s final days so comfortable and peaceful.  . A Celebration of Life Get Together will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home.
