Obituary of Catharine Ruth Cook

Catharine Ruth Cook, 56, of Roanoke died during the night of February 17 – 18, 2018. Her parents, Bill and Rachel Cook, preceded her in death.

Cathie devoted her life to the care of animals; nurturing, feeding and sheltering countless numbers of cats, dogs, and other wild creatures. She was generous to family and friends, serving Meals on Wheels and helping elderly and impaired people. Cathie was an active member of St. James Episcopal Church. 

She is survived by her uncle, J. Frank Cook and his wife Mary Ann, along with cousins, Jonathan and Stephen Cook.

Catharine sought knowledge all her life and read widely and deeply, taking many courses at Mary Washington College, the University of Minnesota, and Virginia Western Community College. Cathie will be missed by the many who knew, and benefited from, her loving, caring, and generous spirit.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or St. James Episcopal Church. 

Catharine’s funeral service with Holy Eucharist and inurnment in the church columbarium will be held at St. James Episcopal Church, 4515 Delray Street, NW, Roanoke, VA. at 3:00pm Friday, March 2, 2018, with the Rev. Susan E. Bentley officiating. A reception in the Parrish Hall, for family and friends, will follow the service. Condolences may be left for the family at www.simpsonfuneral.com.
