Obituary of Robert Hurtchall Wampler, Sr.

September 8, 1946 January 9, 2018 Robert H. "Bob" Wampler, Sr., 71 of Roanoke, died peacefully at home with his family by his side on Tuesday, January 9, 2018. After enduring a tough two year battle with cancer he has received the ultimate healing. Bob was born September 8, 1946 a son of the late LeRoy and Madaline Wampler. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Missy Wampler-Mabry; brother, William J. O'Bryan and a brother-in-law, Johnny Stultz. Bob was a 1964 graduate of William Fleming High School where he sang in the All-State Choir. He retired from his beloved Piedmont Airlines/U S Air where he served at the Roanoke Regional Airport as a customer service manager for 44 years. Bob was a faithful member of North Roanoke Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for many years. Most often Bob could be found being an awesome "Dah" to his grandchildren. Surviving are his loving wife of 51 years, Brenda Stultz Wampler; son, Robert H. "Bobby" Wampler, Jr. and wife Lynn as well as four loving grandkids, Trey, Drew, Nate, and Tori Wampler; a sister-in-law, Darleen O'Bryan Hobbs; niece, Kathy Knapp; great niece, Eva Knapp; other brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Tommy and Carolyn Stultz, Jimmie and Jean Stultz, Connie Stultz Arnold, Eddie and Joanne Stultz; and his companion dog Snuggles. The family extends a very special thank you to Good Samaritan Hospice and nurse Cary Roebuck for their care and compassion during a difficult time. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Building Fund C/O North Roanoke Baptist Church 6402 Peters Creek Road Roanoke, VA 24019 Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, January 13, 2018 at North Roanoke Baptist Church by the Rev. Daniel Palmer and Dr. Darryl G. Crim. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road, 540-366-0707.
