Growing up in the Roanoke Public School system in the 70s was NOT an encouraging time for black young guys to carry on an educated conversation. Brother James Langhorn was one of my rare friends who could carry on an intelligent conversation. He had wisdom beyond his years. I can remember the interest we shared in Science. As things evolved in the Roanoke Public School system, busing into a different high school made James and my other closest friends distant. As time continued to expanded, living kept running and I guess the last time I saw James was at some forgetful place- yet I was amazed of his accomplishments.
To the family, may James' spirit live on in your lives. He was an awesome brother.

James was such a fine man, devoted family man, and great colleague to work with. I enjoyed working with James in the EP Lab at Carilion. He worked so well with our staff and physicians; he was very kind to patients. And he always spoke highly of his family. I am saddened to hear of his passing . I send my love and prayers to his family at this difficult time.

I just learned that James has become a member of God's angels. I have enjoyed knowing him for many years. He was a loving person who dearly valued his children, family and friends.
Always quick with a smile and a hug, a truly dear man. For those of us left here to mourn, he is gone too soon. But we can be assured he is now whole pain free and bathed in God's love as well as ours.
My deepest sympathy to you the family and I hope you can draw comfort from knowing how much so many people loved dear James. I will remember him with joy and frankness at the honor of calling him my friend.
I wish I had learned about this early enough to have shared a hug with you as he wouldhave. Please be assured you are all wrapped in a blanket of love and caring from my heart.

I have known James for may years, working in cardiology, could not have known a better person. He was always sharp dressed, especially the bow tie, and such a gentleman, a class act. My friend you will be greatly missed and were loved by so many. I never talked to James, one time, that he didn't brag about Tyler and Gabrielle, he was so proud of them. Fly high my dear friend, you deserve those wings.
