Obituary of Eugene Richard Walker
Eugene Richard Walker, 87, of Roanoke, died Sunday June 25, 2017. He was born April 25, 1930 in Clifton Forge Virginia. There he attended Central High School where he lettered in sports. He attended Lynchburg College and graduated from the University of Virginia. He served in the U.S. Army in Europe. He was employed by the Continental Insurance Company and retired from the Underwriters Adjusting Company as a claims manager.
His family includes his wife of 65 years, June Berry Walker, his son Scott Walker and daughter-in-law Carol Walker of Pennsylvania, his daughter Laurie Seidel, son-in-law Rick Seidel and his beloved grandson and golfing buddy, Nathan Seidel of Roanoke. He was a skilled golfer and baseball player, an enthusiastic fan of the Virginia Cavaliers, and a wonderful natural swimmer.
He was happiest when he was with his family. A generous father, he loved spending time with his children and grandson doing whatever they liked most. He loved taking his family to Holden Beach, North Carolina. He relished spending his time on the family farm, ScotLyn, in Floyd County, where he was fond of picking blueberries, mowing the fields with his tractor, then sitting in the shade and admiring his handiwork.
Gene Walker, Dad, Grampy, will be held in our hearts always.
