Obituary of Gabriel Agra
Gabe Agra, 80, of Roanoke went home to be with his Heavenly Father On Monday, June 5, 2017. He was born in La Coruna, Spain on July 22, 1936 to the late Gabriel Agra and Carmen Pita Agra. He immigrated to the USA when he was 10 years old. He learned English and street smarts in Brooklyn and graduated from Williamsburg Vocational High School.
Gabe served in the Navy from 1955 to 1959. He was a “Tin Can Sailor” on the Destroyer Class USS The Sullivans. While in the Navy he met his best friend Henry Carr. Henry and his wife Chris, introduced him to the love of his life, Shirley Huddleston. They married on September 1, 1961, soul mates for 55 years. Gabe retired from Piedmont Airlines/US Airways after 33 years. From his humble beginnings he became a proud, hardworking, caring husband, father, and papa who will be deeply and forever missed.
He is survived by his wife Shirley Huddleston Agra, daughters Carmen Renee Agra-Boitnott, Maria Elena Agra Norris (Ed), three grandchildren Elena Renee Boitnott, Mea Isabel Norris, and Gabriel Edward Norris, as well as his beloved sister America Temprano of California and niece Anita Donat and nephew Tommy Temprano and their families.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Bonsack Baptist Church Living Stones Capital Campaign or the American Cancer Society notating to the benefit of Vinton Relay for Life.
The family expresses loving thanks to Heartland Hospice Care.
A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, June 9, 2017 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Thursday at Simpson Funeral Home. 366-0707
