Obituary of Mildred Louise Webster Tanner

Mildred Louise Webster Tanner, 88 of Roanoke, was welcomed home by her Lord in the place prepared for her on January 29, 2017. She was the beloved wife of Fred L. Tanner, Sr. for 68 years; cherished mother of Fred, Jr. and mother-in-love of Jayne; and loving grandmother of Cory and Nathan. She is also survived by five loving nieces, nephews and five great nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her daughter, Rebecca Louise, adoring parents Lewis and Sadie Webster , and her brother Bernard Webster and Ettie Webster; sister Ruth Bell Welford and Otho Bell;niece Alice Ann Drusella Bell, and sister-in law Barbara Tanner Swortzel and William Swortzel. Mildred loved her family, friends, God, and church and was a warm, caring, giving person who could talk to anyone. Her talent for cooking, sewing, quilting, knitting, cross-stitching, and doing a sundry of crafts was used in church activities, as past President for 3 years of the Virginia State Women’s Auxiliary of the Gideon’s International, when giving gifts to others, and when community organizations needed a hand. Mildred worked for the Ponce de Leon and Four Parrots restaurants and retired from the Salem VA Credit Union at age 80. Box 7472, Roanoke, Virginia 24019 A funeral service celebrating Mrs. Tanner’s life will be held 11:00am Wednesday February 1, 2017 at Faith Alliance Church with Rev. Joseph Pjecha officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00pm Tuesday January 31, 2017 at Simpson Funeral Home.
