Maynard A. Staples 77, the man of many talents as he liked to be known for, of Roanoke went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, May 10, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Elsie Staples. He was a graduate of Jefferson High School and served in the U S Navy. Maynard was an avid outdoorsman with a special love of fishing, and he never knew a stranger. He enjoyed playing and building guitars, he loved working with his hands. He was employed by the Kroger Bakery for 31 years and in recent years was the owner of Staples and Sons Construction Company. Surviving are his wife, Sarah Jordan Staples; and his devoted sons, Terry and Chris Staples; brother, Danny Staples, Larry Smith and Melvin Simmons and wife Kitty; sister, Norma Jean Elliott and husband Paul; and nieces Paula Bussey & Cindy Elliott. He touched our lives and we’ll never be the same. Our lives are so empty since he has gone. We are holding God’s promise to see you again, and never to part. You are forever in our hearts our Father, Friend, and mentor. Love you Dad. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, May 14, 2015 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road by Pastor Walter L. Wood. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Simpson Funeral Home. 366-0707
