Please share a memory of Norman to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Norman M. "Corky" Bolton, 82, of Fincastle passed away Saturday, April 14, 2012 at his home after a lengthy illness. He was the son of Ellen Peters Bolton and Norman Milton Bolton, Sr., Corky ws born May 10, 1929. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his younger brother, Burton, and in 2006 by his beloved wife, Joe Anna Adamson Bolton. Corky is survived by his only child, his daughter, Lynne; his sister, Joyce Turbyfill. Also surviving are his sister-in-law, Shirley Bolton, his brother-in-law, Pete Adamson and wife Nancy Potter Adamson, his sister-in-law, Faye Adamson Hundley and husband , Raymond Hundley; and many nieces and nephews, and their spouses and children. Corky attended Roanoke College and began a long career with the phone company, C & P of Virginia, retiring after the break up of AT&T from what became the Verizon regional phone company. During his long career, Corky, Joe Anna, and Lynne moved with his job, first to Norfolk, Va. and then to Fairfax, Va. where the family lived for 15 years. Corky's dream was always to return to his beloved Fincastle and Botetourt County, and this was finally accomplished in 1980. Once back in "God's Country", Corky retired and began volunteer service until his health began to decline. He spent many years helping to manage Godwin Cemetery, and he enjoyed driving for the Fincastle Rescue Squad for a number of years. However, Corky's greatest joy came from life with his beloved Joe Anna and from living on his "hill" in Fincastle. In his last few years, his daughters two pomeranians, Muffy and Sasha, became important parts of his life as he adored "his babies. The family would like to extend thanks to Lisa Gusler of Generation Solutions for the kind care she provided during Corky's last weeks of life. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to either the Fincastle Presbyterian Church or to the League for Animal Protection in Fincastle. Burial of Corky's cremated remains will take place 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2012 in Godwin Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held immediately following at 2 p.m. at Fincastle Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Iain S. Maclean officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home & Crematory. 366-0707
