Obituary of Fred Charles Eckert

Fred C. Eckert, Sr. 93 of Roanoke passed away peacefully on Monday, March 30, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Theresa W. Eckert, three brothers and two sisters. Mr. Eckert served in the U S Navy during World War II as a Machinist's Mate. He was a member of Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Fred was an avid woodworker. One of his greatest joys came from his ability to make items of furniture for his friends. When he was asked to make something for them his answer was always, "draw me a picture". He retired as a chemical engineer. Surviving are his wife, Bernadine Eckert; children, Patricia and Frank Bramlett of Fincastle; Peter and Cheryl Eckert of Yorktown; Fred and Sherry Eckert of Roanoke; Tom and Cassandra Eckert of Stormville; Andy and Vickie Eckert of Roanoke; Matt and Jane Eckert of Staunton; grandchildren, Sarah Flora, Ben Smith, Scott, Jeff, Steven, Matthew, Melissa, Ben and Louis Eckert; Six great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to The Madonna House 828 Campbell Avenue Roanoke, Va. 24016. A memorial service will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church by Monsignor Joseph Lehman. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends following the service. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home & Crematory. 366-0707
