Obituary of Dr. Theresia Reimers

Dr. Theresia Reimers, 83, of Roanoke, a beloved friend and scholar, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2015. She was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Elsie Reimers, and her brother, Everett Reimers. Dr. Reimers was a graduate of Stanford University where she earned her Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. She also served as a Fulbright Scholar at Albert-Ludwigs Universität in Freiburg, Germany. Between 1952 and 1962, Dr. Reimers taught at Stanford University; Institute of European Studies in Vienna, Austria; and University of Hawaii in Honolulu. In 1962, she joined the faculty of Hollins University, from which she retired in 2002. But because of her passion for teaching, she continued as an adjunct professor in the M.A.L.S. program and served as a graduate student advisor until the fall of 2012. In her many capacities at Hollins University, she was an inspiration, a mentor, a friend, and a role model to her colleagues, and students. She will be greatly missed by many, including her fur babies, Jelly and Stanzl, her loving friend and caregiver, Amy Patria, and many devoted friends and caregivers. The memorial service will be conducted Saturday, February 14, 2015, at 11 AM at Simpson Funeral Home and Crematory, 5160 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, VA. Friends are welcome to visit one hour prior to the service.
