Obituary of Christine Matthews Montgomery

Chris (Mawmaw) Montgomery, 87, of Roanoke went to be with the Lord Monday, December 29, 2014. She was born in Hertford, NC on February 15, 1927. She was preceded in death by her parents Matt Matthews and Lucille Matthews Jackson of Hertford, NC, and husband Jack W. Montgomery of Buchanan. Surviving are one sister, Marjorie Cone, Fairhope, Alabama; one brother, Paul Matthews (Barbara) of Winston-Salem, NC; two daughters, Sherry Bowman (John) of Troutville; and Jenean Blackmon (Mike) of Florence SC; two grandsons, Ryan Bayse (Kathy), of Salem; and Bradley Harper (Susan) of Roanoke and three great grandchildren that she adored, Lincoln Bayse, Ashton Harper, and Addison Harper. Chris was a long-time member of North Roanoke Baptist Church where she worshiped and served the Lord faithfully. She was strong in her faith and committed to the Lord. Chris worked for Sears for over 30 years and retired as the Service Manager in 1990. She was a caring and loving woman devoted to her family and friends. Chris was a tremendous cook and will be remembered for the great Sunday dinners she cooked for her family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Building Fund C/O North Roanoke Baptist Church 6402 Peters Creek Road Roanoke, Virginia 24019.Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, January 2, 2015 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road by Dr. Darryl G. Crim. Interment will follow in Fair View Cemetery in Buchanan. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Simpson Funeral Home. 366-0707
