Douglas J. (Doug) Burton 79 of Roanoke went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, December 27, 2014. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frankie W. Burton, parents, Ray R. and Claudia Dickerson Burton, sister, Marie Chocklett, brother, Elwood Burton, his twin brother and best friend, Donald Burton; and a son Michael Lynn. Doug served in the U S Navy during the Korean War and for most of his life he worked along side of his father and twin brother as a building contractor. For many years Doug enjoyed playing cards throughout the area with friends especially at Moose Lodge # 284 in Salem and the Moose Lodge in Vinton. He also enjoyed a good card game with his many friends at Am Vets in Roanoke. Surviving are his sister, Haskell Hartley, nieces, Carol Fuller and husband Johnny, Bonnie Cecil; a very special nephew, Shannon Burton and wife Stephanie; nephews, David Burton and wife Angie, Scott Burton and wife Susan, Kevin Burton, and Mark Chocklett; sister-in-law and caregiver, Virginia Burton; step son, Lennie Atwood and wife Janice, step grandchildren, Kimberly and Christopher Atwood; four great grandchildren. Family and friends will assemble at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road for a procession to a grave side service that will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday December 31, 2014 in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens by Dr. Michael Wrye. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Simpson Funeral Home. 366-0707
