Obituary of Newton "Allen" Camper

Newton "Allen" Camper, 75, of Vinton, Va., went home to be with our Lord on Saturday, December 20, 2014. He was born to Charles and Edith Camper on January 1, 1939, in Roanoke, Va. After school, Allen entered the United States Marine Corps and retired in 1985 after serving more than 26 years with the rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant. After retiring, he settled in Vinton and began his second career in the private sector with Allstate. In retirement, Allen truly enjoyed spending time with his family and caring for his yard. He was loved by many and will be missed tremendously. Allen is preceded in death by his son, Christopher Camper, of Vinton, Va. To cherish his memory, Allen is survived by his wife of 54 years, Janet Walters Camper; his daughter, Tammy Birch and her husband, Robert, of Prince George, Va.; his grandchildren, Rebeccah, Jennifer, Jarrod, Kristin, and Victoria; and his great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Katherine, Braedyn, and Corwin. Along with a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Sylvia Camper of Salem, Va.; brother and sister-in-law, Charles (Eddy) and Mary Camper, of Fairfax, Va.; brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Betty Camper, of Roanoke, Va.; sister, Judith Sipe, of Sandston, Va.; sister and brother-in-law, Faye and Robert Keen, of Salem, Va.; and a number of dear nieces and nephews. He was a member of Lynn Haven Baptist Church. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00pm on Monday, December 22, 2014 at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, Va. A memorial service will be at 2:00pm, Tuesday, December 23, 2014, also at Simpson Funeral Home, and will be conducted by Dr. Michael Wrye. Imterment will be held at a later date.
