He had an enormous musical talent, and a gift for showing his best face in public. If only he'd been able to do that at home.

I am sorry for your loss please accept my sincere condolences. I hope you will find your strength and comfort in Jesus promises of the earthly resurrection(:Acts 24:15) and the renewed Paradise earth, where death will be no more and no family will have to mourn the death of a loved ever again. Revelation 21:3,4; Luke 23:43. May GOD(Psalms 83:18) grant you peace and comfort now during this grievous time.-Matthew 5:4.

Vickie, Bobby and granddaughters,
I know that your father and grandfather will be greatly missed. You will have your cherished memories of him to comfort you in your grief. He is in the arms of Jesus now, without pain and sorrow.
He was a good brother to me and I have always been very proud of his many accomplishments. The good Lord gave him many talents and he took advantage of them all. He and Verna use to invite me to their home for the weekend when I was homesick at Radford College. He was always John to me and my siblings and he showed that he cared about us in many ways. He was especially good to our parents.
When he was performing on TV, we would all gather around and watch with pride. The Angel Band in heaven has added an awesome new fiddler! RIP bro.

We are so sorry for your loss. in the years that we have known your family, we have heard and seen nothing but good things about Johnie. He became a good friend to Junior and Junior looked at him like his own grandfather. we know that nothing can replace him. He was a good man, grandfather, father and husband. he is now with his wife of many years. they are looking down at the wonderful family that they have formed. your family will be in our prayers.

Vickie, you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Your parents were both very special to me. I know they loved the Lord Jesus, and they loved their family and friends. They will be greatly missed by everyone. I rejoice for Johnie that he is now with his Savior. I look forward to that glorious day when we will meet the Lord in the air and forever we will be with the Lord!
Shalom, Love & Blessings,
Dana & Melvin
1 Thessalonians 4:15-18
15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.

So sorry for your loss. Johnie was a wonderful person and will be greatly missed. He was very thoughtful and kind. He sent a kind note to my daughter after she left for college and I know that means the world to her. May God shower you with his love during this time.

I'm very sad that Johnie is gone. We drove together to many shows and I enjoyed our talks and time together. I don't think I'll ever forget his version of "Back Up and Push", which is better than any of the recordings that I have. It was a honor playing with Johnie.
At the passing of great string musicians, I think of the song "Angel Band". Their band has a great new fiddle player.

I've been at Red Hill Baptist all my life and I got to know Johnie fairly well. He was a very sweet man who was absolutely excellent musically. He and Verna were very kind to me and took special interest in my schooling and life in general. It's sad to see him go and he truly will be missed.

So sorry for the loss of dear friend Johnie. Wow. The last time I saw him at the pickers he had an instrument in his hand walking out the door after we had a conversation about taking a class under his very talented direction. It did not happen. So...I guess I can take some lessons when I get to heaven.
We worked together at Roanoke Times. Later got to see each other when he played with the pickers at the Salem Senior building, where I work part-time. A great guy...sure to be missed by many!!!! including myself.
I am sure there will be some young musicians who were taught by Johnie that will be sad. If you heard the kids who took his classes...wonderful!!!
Rest in Peace Johnie. To his family and close friends, so sorry for this loss for us especially during this holiday season.
