Linwood (Slim) Caldwell, 79, of Masons Cove went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, November 28, 2014. He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas E. (Tommy) Caldwell, parents, Clarence E. and Bertha Mae Paitsel Caldwell, brothers, Julius, Buford, Roy and Wade Caldwell. Mr. Caldwell retired from ABF Trucking and was a life member of Teamsters Local # 171. He was a member of Hollins Road Church of the Brethren and a devoted farmer. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Lorraine Collins Caldwell; daughters, Renee Ferguson and husband Bob, Karen Schoonover and husband Emerson, all of Masons Cove; grandchildren, Josh Carlisle and wife Jordan, Heather Thurman, Emerson Schoonover, III and wife Christie, Adam Schoonover and wife Amy; great grandchildren, Taylor, Gabriella, Emma and Gavin Schoonover; sisters, Norma Puckett and husband Morris, Nancy Cox and husband Harim; numerous other family members, and friends too numerous to mention including a special brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Boyd and Nancy Purdy; and a special nephew and caregiver, Jimmy Purdy and wife Patty. In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorials be made to Masons Cover Volunteer Fire Department 3810 Bradshaw Road Salem, Va. 24153. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Simpson Funeral Home. 366-0707
