Obituary of James Keys Lucas

James K. Lucas, 61, of Roanoke transcended his physical life on Sunday, November 16, 2014. He was a student of the last graduating class of Jefferson High School, a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Roanoke College, a U S Coast Guardsman, a partner in JBJ, Inc., and a real estate agent with both Barker Realty and Wainwright Realty Companies. Quick of wit and sharp of tongue, Jim was a man of intellectual pursuit, and a "man of letters" having contributed forty years of published letters and commentary to the Roanoke Times. On a personal note some of his proudest times were spent coaching little league for the Marion Recreation Department where he was declared the "most winningest coach in Smyth County" by one of his comtemporaries. Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Candy; sons Jake (Tonia), and his son John, who was his constant caregiver and companion; parents Jack and Ruth of North Carolina; brother, Jeff of Mexico; sister Jenny and family of North Carolina; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, especially Gary Haprer. The family offers their sincere thanks to the staff at Blue Ridge Cancer Care, Dr. Brady with Carilion Clinic and the staff at Good Samaritan Hospice for their treatment, care and compassion.
