Norman E. Walters, 69, of Roanoke went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 1, 2011. He was preceded by his parents Winford L. and Dorothy C. Walters and his step-mother Irene West Walters; brother, Roger Walters and a sister, Winnie Lambert. Mr. Walters served his country proudly in the United States Air Force. He retired from RJ Reynolds Hospital in Stuart, VA. Prior to that he served hospitals in WV, NC, OK, and KY as an Administration and Finance officer. Mr. Walters was a member of Melrose Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and the teacher for the Grace Sunday School Class. He was also a member of the Melrose Masonic Lodge #139 and the Scottish Rite Body of Roanoke. Surviving are his loving wife of 48 years, Elizabeth (Wizzy) Walters; daughter, Pamela Walters-Boley and husband Jason, of Indiana; son Scot E. Walters of Kentucky; brother, Rev. Winford Walters, Jr. and wife Carol of Arkansas; special brother-in-law and sister-in-law, M.H. and Mary Cox of Roanoke, and a host of other loving family members and friends. The family would like to say thank you to the Neurology Surgeon Team and the nurses in ICU at Roanoke Memorial Hospital for their care during this time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mr. Walters' name to the Building Fund or the Food Pantry at Melrose Baptist Church. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Simpson Funeral Home. Masonic Rites will be conducted by Melrose Masonic Lodge #139 at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening following the visitation. A funeral service celebrating Mr. Walters' life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at Melrose Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Sprouse, Rev. Brenda Rowe and Rev. Bob West officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.simpsonfuneral.com.
