Obituary of Steve Jones

Steve A. Jones, 63, of Hardy passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2011. He was preceded in death by his father, A.W. Jones; a brother, Fletcher E. Jones and a nephew Stuart B. Jones. Steve retired after 32 years of service as a signalman with the Norfolk Southern Railway. He will long be remembered for his dry sense of humor, generous giving spirit and the patience that he showed those with whom he came in contact. His hobbies included photography and working with the Boy Scouts at God's House Baptist Ministry on Melrose Avenue in Roanoke. Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Terry A. Jones; daughter, Nicole Taylor and husband Brenon of Roanoke; granddaughter, Nayeli Taylor; mother, Sue Jones of Roanoke; brother, Wayne Jones and wife Carolyn of Wirtz; mother in law, LaVerne Andrew of Roanoke; and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to the Boy Scouts C/O God's House Baptist Ministry 3601 Melrose Avenue Roanoke, Va. 24017. Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Thursday, September 22, 2011 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road by Deacon Chris Barrett. The rite of Committal will be conducted at Resurrection Church Cemetery in Moneta. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Simpson Funeral Home. 366-0707
