MSgt Bernard Terry Turner "BT", U S Marine Corps. Retired, 80, of Roanoke County left his earthly body on Wednesday, August 31, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents, an older brother, and a son. Mr. Turner retired after more than 52 years of service in the United States Marine Corps. He served during both Korea and Vietnam. He was proud to be a member of the " Chosin Few" After his retirement from the Marine Corps he worked for a number of years at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Salem. He was a longtime member of VFW Post # 1264 and a member of the DAV. He was also a former Scoutmaster. Surviving are his daughters, Bonny Turner of Hardy; Meagan Dolan of Schenectady, New York; son, Charles A. Turner of Seattle, Washington; grandchildren, Hallie and Sam Chappell, William and Vienna Dolan; and a close friend, Judy Shorter. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to VFW Post # 1264. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, September 3, 2011 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road by the Rev. E. E. "Dick" Jones.. Interment with military honors will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Simpson Funeral Home. 366-0707
