Carl Douglas "Pete" Alls, 83, of Roanoke passed away peacefully after a brief battle with cancer on the morning of Tuesday, August 30, 2011. Waiting at heaven's gate to great Pete were his parents, George and Ruby Alls, his beloved wife Martha Milton Alls, sister, Gracie Alls Whitlock and longtime friend Jack Oaks. Pete was a World War II veteran entering the U S Navy on March 11, 1946. He served on two ships; the USS Yosemite (AD 19) and USS Wilson (DD 847). Pete returned home following the war and worked many years as a machinist at the Walker Foundry, in his hometown area of Norwich. He finally retired as a respected and cherished employee of Milton Electric as an electrician in 1988. Pete loved fishing, boating, and spending time riding around Roanoke with his dog Jack. Surviving are his children, James Douglas Alls and wife LeeAnn; Donna Alls Barker; Michael Anthony (Tony) Alls; Betty Javaughn (BJ) Alls Miller and husband Kenneth "Wayne"; Lisa Alls Caldwell and husband Tex; Sharmin Hayes; beloved sister in law, Darlene Milton McLawhorn; grandchildren, Danny Alls and wife Tiffany, Kendahl Barker, Maxwell Garcia, Whitney Compton, Brandie Compton, Robbie Compton, Sean Miller and wife Macheala, Mindi Worrell, Matthew Caldwell and wife Edan, numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends. A celebration of Pete's life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, September 3, 2011 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road with the Rev. Charles R. Doyle officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home. 366-0707
