Robert P. (Bob) Wingfield, 77, of Roanoke went home to be with his Lord Friday, July 22, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents, William G. Sr and Helen Wright Wingfield and his step mother, Peggy Stiff Wingfield. Bob was a graduate of William Fleming High School, and was inducted in the school's Sports Hall of Fame in 2010. After graduating from William Fleming, Bob attended and graduated from Virginia Tech in 1957 with a degree in Civil Engineering. His career as a Civil Engineer included working with the Virginia Department of Transportation for twenty-two years, and working for and retiring from Lanford Brothers Construction in 1997. After his retirement from Lanford Brothers, he returned to the Virginia Department of Transportation to work as a part time consultant. He was a member of Northview United Methodist Church, the Williamson Road Lions Club where he received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award, the Virginia Tech German Club, and the Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame's class of 2004. Surviving are his wife of 27 years, Nancy Root Wingfield; son, Robert P. Wingfield; daughter and son in law, Lou Ann and Chip Kleiman; step sons, William Paul Murdock and wife Kay; Joseph S. Murdock and wife Susan, Benjamin R. Murdock and wife Jackie; Michael D. Murdock and wife Rachael; twelve grandchildren; one great grandchild; brother, William G. Wingfield, Jr. and wife Nancy; sister, Elaine W. Grubbs; brother in law, William H. Root; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Building Fund C/O Northview United Methodist Church P O Box 7131 Roanoke, Va. 24019 or to the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation 3962 South Delaware Street Englewood, Colorado 80110. A memorial service will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, July 30, 2011 at Northview United Methodist Church with Pastors Joe Klotz, Bart Weakley and Mickey White officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 29, 2011 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. 366-0707
