Obituary of Nacy Johnson

Nancy Jo Klink Johnson, 66, died Friday, July 8, 2011, at Lewis-Gale Hospital in Roanoke. Born July 22, 1944 in Polk, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Howard E. Klink Sr. and Donna Louise Marshall Klink. Mrs. Johnson retired after many years as a social worker in Roanoke and Vinton. She worked with Gus Nicks in establishing the first Mayor's Youth Council in Vinton and she also started the West End Center for Youth in Roanoke and served as its first director. The Center is now celebrating its 32nd year of existence. She had resided for the past XX years with husband Tom in Roanoke. In the last days of her illness, she was cared for by her daughter Caroline. Her life was spent devoted to her family and her many beloved pets including Booey, Daisy and Candy. Mrs. Johnson was an avid reader of mystery novels and spent her days reading well into her nights. She was preceded in death by her husband Oscar Thomas Johnson as well as by her parents Howard E. "Hud" and Donna Marshall Klink. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Caroline Plumer Pulido and Daniel Pulido of Falls Church, VA, stepson Joey Dell Johnson of Vinton, stepdaughter Tommie Lynn Johnson of Roanoke and stepson Harry Thomas Johnson of Puerto Rico. Also surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Howard E. "Chip" and Sherre Klink, of Roanoke, and cousins Dr. Gary and Mrs. Tina Klink. Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Huff Chapel in Polk, Pa. Interment will follow in Old Sandy Cemetery.
