Obituary of Masten Young

Masten Yates Young, 81, of Roanoke, also known as "Mike" or Pete" passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents, David Masten Young and Laura Orvella Elizabeth Yates Young, and a brother, John Robert Young. Surviving are his son, Steven Young; brother, David Young; sisters, Pauline Inman, Orvella Hartman, Annie Merriam; grandchildren, Kasey Johnson, and Michael Young. Special great granddaughter, Taylor Johnson; Special niece, Jessi Young and numerous other nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews. Mr. Young was a proud veteran who served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He retired from the U. S. Postal service here in Roanoke, Virginia. He was a kind and loving man who cared about and was devoted to family and friends. He fought a courageous three years battle with cancer. The family would like to thank Drs. Munson and Schertz, the Carilion Hospital Staff and a very "special thanks" to the Carilion Hospice staff for their special care during his final days. Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Monday, June 13, 2011 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road by the Rev. E. E. "Dick" Jones. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with a special tribute by his nephew, Lee Inman. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Simpson Funeral Home. 366-0707
