Obituary of Lawrence Journell

Lawrence F. "Pete" Journell, of Roanoke went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 2, 2011. He was predeceased by his father, Robert M. Journell, his mother and step/father, Hazel and Houston Hale, brothers, Robert M. Journell, Jr., James (Peanut) Journell, and Donnie Hale; sisters, Blanche Holley and Juanita Francisco; infant grandsons, Seth Alexander and Zachary Thomas Wright; and a sister-in-law, Roberta Starr. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Helen Sue Journell; sons, Larry Journell and wife Genevieve, Allen Journell and wife Brenda; daughters, Vicky Carrell and husband Gary; Tracy Wright and husband Jeff; grandchildren, Wayne Journell and wife Katrina, Patrick Carrell, Amy J. Carpenter, Daniel Carrell, Ethan Wright and Page Wright; great granddaughter, Lily Grace Carrell; sister, Katherine Shoskin; brothers, Ken Journell and wife Ann, Lewis Journell and wife Barbara; Ben Hale and wife Diane; sisters-in-law, Donna K. Hale, and Chris Journell; brother-in-law, James Starr. Pete served in the U S Navy during World War II. He was employed with the N & W Railway for forty-three years and 10 months. Pete was a longtime active member of Enon Baptist Church, joining in 1947. A special thanks to Gloria Welch, his faithful caregiver, and Robert Womack and Shirl Mederlet from Medi Home Health and Hospice. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to Enon Baptist Church 7971 Williamson Road Roanoke, Va. 24019. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road by the Rev. Harold Cook. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Simpson Funeral Home.
