BMC Wayne M. Huffman, U S Navy Retired, 78, of New Castle passed Saturday, May 21, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents John Michael and Martha Ann Craft Huffman, and sister, Arbie Jane Francisco. Mr. Huffman retired after 22 years service in the U S Navy. His last duty station was in Staunton, Va. where he served as a recruiter. During his long Navy career he served aboard the: USS Canisteo, the Kittyhawk, the Ranger, the Boxer, the Fulton, and the Independence. Following his retirement from the Navy he worked as a sewing machine mechanic for Halmode Apparel and was a member of the VFW. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Geneva (Sue) Huffman; son, Donald Wayne Huffman; sisters, Maude Cole of Salem; Joy Kyle Huffman of Pembroke; a number of nieces and nephews including Bill Huffman, Connie Moore and Carol Skelton. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the New Castle Rescue Squad. A special thanks to the Radiology Department, the Ultra Sound Department, and Dr. Bern at Lewis Gale Clinic; the techs, nurses, physicians assistants Hannah and Bill, and the ICU staff and the 3rd floor staff at Lewis Gale Medical Center for the many acts of kindness and compassion shown Wayne during his illness. A memorial service will be conducted 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at Paitsell Funeral Home 286 Main Street New Castle. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday prior to the service. Arrangements by Paitsell Funeral Home.
