Willard Thompson (Tom) Fields, 67, of Roanoke (formerly of Craig County) passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents, Letcher Y. and Helen Buchanan Fields, and a brother, Samuel B. Fields. Tom was a 1961 graduate of New Castle High School, graduated from Virginia Tech in 1965 with a degree in history, and later studied at the American Institute of Foreign Trade in Phoenix, Arizona. Tom served in the U S Army, and spent his career in sales with the Hallmark Company, and later Commonwealth Cash Register. Surviving are his daughters, Heather Duncan and husband Troy of New Castle; Holly Logan and husband Michael of Salem; grandchildren, Tanner and Drew Duncan; Connor Carper, Carter, Emily, and Troy Logan; niece, Elaine Mead and husband Tom; nephew, David Fields and wife Kathleen; sister-in-law, Dorothy W. Fields of Richmond. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to New Castle United Methodist Church, P O Box 13 New Castle, Virginia 24127. or to St. James Episcopal Church 4515 Delray Street Roanoke, Virginia 24012. A memorial service will be conducted 7 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2011 at New Castle United Methodist Church by the Rev. Susan Bentley. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. at the church.
