Doris Hungate Ayers, 84, of Roanoke went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 24, 2011. She was a member of Community Advent Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold A. and Ruby Mae Hungate, husband, John L. Ayers, daughter, Gloria E. Ayers, son, Harold L. Ayers; brother, Albert E. Hungate, and step mother, Sidney A. Hungate. She was a member of Community Advent Christian Church. Doris was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Surviving are her son, Jon K. Ayers of Roanoke; daughter, Sharon Ayers Shelton and husband Thomas of Gloucester; granddaughter, Jennifer S. Hyde and husband Chuck of Gloucester; great grandson, Charles Jackson Hyde; step sister, Vivian Eckert of Iverness, Florida; and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road by the Rev. T.G. Ayers. Interment will follow in Fair View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Simpson Funeral Home.
