John M. Cumbee, 73, of Salem went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, April 20, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Barbara "Bobbie" Cumbee; children, Stacy L. Scott and husband Tony of Salem; Jimmy D. Cumbee and wife Tiffany of Roanoke; Lisa C. Spence and husband Darryl of Salem; grandchildren, Leanne Spence, Jason Scott, Seth Spence, Sierra Cumbee and Brandon Cumbee; brother, Roscoe Cumbee of Roanoke; sisters, Eunice Williams of Pembroke; Dorothy Epling of Salem, Darlene Woody and Patsy Minnix both of Lynchburg; and a number of nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society 2840 Electric Road Roanoke, Virginia 24018. A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2011 in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park by the Rev. Thomas Hanks. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. 366-0707
