Obituary of Kolmer Wertz

Angels carried Kolmer Wertz of Roanoke to his eternal home on Friday, April 8, 2011. Kolmer, was born on February 10, 1922 to Denton and Hester Wertz. He is survived by Marie, his loving wife of 68 years, daughter and son in law, Pam and Len Janney of Salem; son and daughter in law, David and Linda Wertz; sister and brother in law, Melba and Ray Martin, granddaughter, Kim Draper, grandson, Randy Wertz, all of Roanoke; and great grandson Travis Herald of Clifton Forge. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and his precious grandog, Pebbles. Kolmer was a World War II veteran and retired from the Veterans Administraion Medical Center where his military training served him well as their medical equipment serviceman, and later as Chief of Supply. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church, holding several offices there, including fourteen years as treasurer. The family offers a heartfelt thank you to the Gentle Shepherd Hospice staff for all of their concern and support. Special thanks to Rosa and Brenda for the love and wonderful care given Kolmer. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to the Central United Methodist Church Building Fund-Principle only. A celebration of Kolmer's life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at Central United Methodist Church 428 College Avenue Salem with Pastor Kristen Holbrook, the Rev. Jimmy D. Edwards, and Dr. Jack Lowe officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. 366-0707
