Obituary of Emily Patterson

Emily Chamblin Patterson, 93, of Daleville passed away Friday, March 25, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Ralph B. Patterson, her parents, John and Katherine Chamblin, three sisters and two brothers. She was a longtime member of Northminster Presbyterian Church. Emily was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, neighbor, and friend. She played basketball in high school and became an avid fan. The Duke Blue Devils were her favorite team. It was no secret to anyone who knew her that she passionately disliked anything associated with Virginia Tech. If they would lose any football or basketball game, she would "ring the bell" in her back yard for her Hokie neighbor. This was due largely to the fact that she was a mother and grandmother of VMI cadets. She loved reading and cooking. She especially loved holidays and cooking for her family. Her speciality was homemade rolls which she usually made every Monday. She will be sadly missed. (Listen for the bell Mom!!) Surviving are her sons, Donald and wife Betty, Michael and wife Claudia, Richard and special friend Dotty Hopkins, Jim and wife Kathy, grandchildren, Mike and wife Angie Patterson, Jeff and wife Angie Patterson, Jennifer Patterson, Camden Mosesmann and husband Hans, Carrie Toti and husband Doug, Amanda Patterson, Trae Patterson, and Joshua Looney, great grandchildren, Collin and Lauren Patterson, Charlie Meadows, Gunther, Olivia, and Mikey Mosesmann, Xander and Giorgia Toti, and Makenzie Looney, sisters, Helen St. John and Janet Flanagan , many wonderful nieces, nephews, and former daughters-in-law, Pat Patterson and Joan McKenna. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society 1 Morton Drive Suite 106 Charlottesville, Va. 22903 or to the American Cancer Society Roanoke Office 2840 Electric Road Roanoke, Virginia 24018. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, March 31, 2010 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road by Dr. David A. Kirk. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Simpson Funeral Home. 366-0707
