Joan Muniz Cummings, 93, of Roanoke died Monday, February 14, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur W. Cummings. Mrs. Cummings served as Executive Director of the Roanoke Valley Safety Council. She was a founding member of the St. Thomas of Canterbury Anglican Catholic Church and a retired artist. Surviving are her son, Arthur W. Cummings, Jr. and wife Carole of Huntersville, N.C.; daughter, Joan E. Witt and husband Harold of Roanoke; grandchildren, Heather C. Junker and husband Carl of North Carolina; Michele Wingfield and husband Tim of Roanoke; Michael Fairtrace and Amy of Vinton; great grandchildren, Tommy Junker, Haleigh Butcher, Miranda Fairtrace, Hayden Fairtrace, and Lena Fairtrace. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to St. Thomas of Canterbury Anglican Catholic Church 4910 Hubert Road N.W. Roanoke, Virginia 24012. A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at St. Thomas of Canterbury Anglican Catholic Church by Father Paul Beutell and Cannon Wallace Shields. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home & Crematory. 366-0707
