Obituary of Beverly Dummitt

Beverly June Dummitt, 80, of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Monday, February 7, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Dummitt; sister, Betty Davis; brother, John Propst; father, Clarence "Pete" Propst; mother, Valera Foutz; and stepfather, L.O. "Jack" Foutz. Beverly retired from the Roanoke County Department of Social Services. She was a charter member of the American Business Women's Association. Surviving are her children, Pamela Dummitt, of Richmond, Va., Robert Dummitt and wife, Deborah, of Vinton, George Scott Dummitt Craig, Kimberly Gates and husband, Edward, all of Roanoke; grandchildren, Erin Dummitt, of Rocky Mount, Evan Dummitt, of Vinton, and Rainey Wetter, of Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; greatgrandchildren, Tosh and Marley Armstrong; and sisters, Belinda Bencin and husband, Don, of Sarasota, Fla., Barbara Walker, of Bradenton, Fla., and Nancy Smith, of Muncie, Ind. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to offer a special thanks to the staff at Friendship Manor Health Care Center and the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice for their many acts of kindness. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Third Street Coffee House, c/o Trinity United Methodist Church, 305 Mountain Avenue, SW, Roanoke, Va. 24016. Funeral Services will be conducted 2 p.m. on Thursday, February 10, 2011, at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road by Chaplain Marvin Barbre. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 9, 2011, at Simpson Funeral Home, 540-366-0707.
